artificial flavors??

use the term ... there are no "artificial flavors" (in Europe) refers to the fact that the aroma (mix of various ingredients) contains only substances which are present in nature, but may still be synthesis (see natural identical flavors, the reference is the Legislative Decree 107/92).
This classification is quite clear to the world of aromatieri!
So saying "do not use artificial flavors" is not equivalent to saying "use natural flavors", but use substances that occur naturally.
As for the labeling to be indicated on the label classical (list ingredients) are referred to the Legislative Decree 109/92, where the distinction is possible only natural flavors and aromas.

An example ... a vanilla flavor (made from a mixture of flavoring ingredients) it contains:
1) extract da bacche della vaniglia (contiene solo sostanze naturali fra cui anche la vanilina) in questo caso non c’è dubbio che è NATURALE . ... cioè aromi naturali sono ottenuti con opportuni procedimenti fisici a partire da una materia di origine vegetale allo stato naturale ...
2) vanillina di sintesi (uguale a quella presente in natura) è un aroma natural identico, e NON È ARTIFICIALE (cioè esiste in natura il d.lgs 107/92), ovviamente sull’etichetta indico AROMA (come prevedere il d.lgs 109/92),
ma SEMBRA lecito usare il claims “non contiene aromi artificiali” ... cioè aromi naturali identici sono molecole ottenute per sintesi o estrazione chimica ed chimicamente identiche alla sostanza naturale ...
3) Etil-Vanilina (sostanza di sintesi, elencata nell’allegato del d.lgs 107/92, è una sostanza che non esiste in natura e che ha il gusto di vaniglia), l’aroma è di sintesi (non è naturale) ed è classificato come artificiale (non è cioè natural-identico). ... cioè AROMA (artificiali) sono sostanze ottenute per via chimica, ma diversa da quella presente nell'aroma naturale con opportuni procedimenti fisici a partire da una materia di origine vegetale allo stato naturale ...
Ma comunque penso sia superfluo fare tutte queste riflessioni e classificazione, since the entering into force on 20:01:11 EC regulation 1334/2008 repealing Dir 88/388 and Dir 91/71 who made "born" the Decree 107/92.

- Vanilla is much more expensive than synthetic vanillin ...
- The aroma of vanilla aroma and full of natural vanilla is not possible to distinguish it from "normal noses" ...
- We use over 10,000 tons per year of vanilla (only about 1-5% will be natural) is sustainable produce all the necessary vanillin from vanilla pods??
- quantity as the aroma is less used in food industry (1 / 1000) are in fact the last postoi list of ingredients ...

THE periculum

the same thing happened after the second protective order of the TAR in Milan dated 13.1.2010 : in this case, users not only have not received any reimbursement of sums wrongly paid in the previous year, but have unwittingly incur bills bearing still up 12, 53%, according to another administrative measure whose effectiveness had been suspended;
