waste crisis: a farce for the handling of public money without control
Palermo, October 7, 2010 - The national government has ruled that a state of emergency waste management in Sicily, of which Mr Lombardo was appointed governor, will last until 2012, thereby transforming the emergency in the steady state. Sicily, in fact, is the waste emergency in 1999, with a brief interlude from 2007 to 2010.
This betrays a lonely, sad reality: The government can not solve the waste problem in Sicily, as it has not settled in Naples where he hid a mountain of solid waste out of town and drew up a plan based on emergency-waste incinerators and landfill facilities.
Now Lombardo, in his capacity as Commissioner waste emergency, should have produced a Regional Waste Plan by September 21, which did not happen, and that he is hiding reinventing old news to the press as the construction of a disposal facility in the valley of Dittaino and export of waste. We fear so deeply
that Sicily was planned the same fate of Naples, just delayed Waste Plan, so that the emergency may justify other new landfills and incinerators, which were criticized by both Lombardo when they were part of the Plan Cuffaro. This was usually the ultimate goal of being able to handle a lot of money with minimal public scrutiny.
We will fight for an immediate plan, therefore, sustainable waste, inexpensive and environmentally, as required by law in a law which absolutely preponderant role in the reduction of waste production, reuse and recycling and recycling.
